A Note from the President
Thursday, 06 May 2010 20:54

Well the season is well and truly underway and our teams are playing above expectations.

We congratulate all our players and hope they have a wonderful season and enjoy playing a great sport. Our coaches and team managers are inspirational, their dedication to improving the children and their teaching abilities are providing a great foundation to the children.

To our parents that bring their children on time, and provide oranges and snakes and score when needed we thank you. Without your support the club cannot function.

To our parents that have offered to umpire—a very big thank you to you, es-pecially for the Under 11’s where you cannot watch your child play. We thank you for helping out the club over your natural desires to watch your children.

We have a few activities planned for the remainder of the season, so look out for the notes when they come home.

I’m often asked why I would think about starting a new club when it would be a lot eas-ier to join an existing club. And they’re right, it would be a lot easier but not necessarily better. My strong belief in building an extraordinary club for our children and future children was paid dividends on the weekend. Our Under 11’s White had two people away due to injury and illness, so asked our Under 11’s Maroon coach - Damien—if it was possible to have one of their players for the game, so as to have 7 on the court. Damien of course obliged and both teams had 7 players for the game. Sheriden Haskell was kind enough to go and play for White.

With a full team White played their hearts out and won their first game for the season, something that would not have been possible with 6 players. After hearing the exciting news, Damien told Maroon’s that White had won and to quickly have a drink and go over and congratulate them. Well the drinks were forgotten and all of them stampeded over with High Five’s everywhere, all congratulating their team mates. It didn’t matter that the Maroons had lost. All that mattered was that somebody had won.

So yes easier it would have been but better I can possible imagine. It’s moments like that, that I’m so glad I am the president for a group of parents and children whom up-hold the spirit of sportsmanship.
